The SSTC – the mouthpiece of the scientific community
The Swiss Science and Technology Council (SSTC) serves as an advisory body to the Federal Council in matters relating to science, higher education, research and technology policy. As the mouthpiece of the scientific community, it formulates concepts and proposes measures to achieve their realisation.
The aim of the SSTC, which administers its tasks as an independent consultative body, is the continuous promotion of the excellence of all scientific disciplines, their structures and representatives in Switzerland.
The SSTC is made up of leading figures from the fields of science, education and research, who are appointed by the Federal Council. The Council, chaired by its President, Prof. Susanne Suter, carries out its tasks in close collaboration with the President’s Staff. For administrative purposes, the Swiss Science and Technology Council SSTC is affiliated to the State Secretariat for Education and Research (SER) in the Federal Department of Home Affairs. It has the status of an independent extra-parliamentary commission.
